Garden Market Shopping Experience

How is the retail shopping experience different from the Sea Girt location?

Our Hurley Pond location offers a relaxed, rustic market experience set right at the source — our 22-acre working farm. Instead of a full-scale retail garden center, this seasonal market focuses on what we grow best: a carefully selected range of annuals, perennials, shrubs, evergreens, vegetables, herbs, and tropicals suited to our local growing conditions, along with high-quality soils and mulches.

By operating seasonally at the farm, our plants go straight from greenhouse to garden. This allows us to offer seasonal varieties at their peak and provide strong, healthy plants at an excellent value.

Unlike our former Sea Girt location, we will not carry houseplants, home décor, pottery, gifts, or tools, nor will we offer custom potting or arrangements. Our focus is on strong, healthy plants and a simple, farm-to-garden shopping experience.

What will be available at the Garden Market? Can I request or hold items?

Our Garden Market is stocked daily with fresh product from our greenhouses, and availability changes quickly throughout the season.

Because of this, we’re unable to confirm, reserve, or hold specific items in advance. We know this is a shift from how we’ve operated in the past, and we appreciate your understanding as we grow into this new model.

For the best selection, we recommend visiting early in the day and checking back frequently during peak planting season.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept cash and most major credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, and American Express), as well as contactless payments such as Apple Pay. A 2.5% processing fee is applied to credit card transactions. We do not accept personal checks.

What is the return policy?

We take great pride in growing strong, healthy plants and caring for them attentively until they leave our farm. We guarantee that all plants are healthy at the time of purchase.

Because plants are living things and their success depends on many factors beyond our control, we are unable to offer returns or exchanges once plants and products have left the premises. We kindly ask that you inspect your selections before checkout, and our team will be happy to answer any questions to help you choose with confidence.

Do you offer custom potting or re-potting services?

No - Custom drop-off container planting and re-potting services are not available at the farm. Instead, we offer our popular “drop-in” combinations — expertly designed seasonal plantings that fit directly into your own containers for immediate impact with a simple, ready-to-go solution.

Will you still offer the Dirty Glove Club or a loyalty program?

The Dirty Glove Club was a fun and meaningful part of our Sea Girt years, and we're grateful to all who participated. As we transition to our seasonal garden market, we will not be offering a loyalty program. Our goal is to provide strong, healthy plants and fair, everyday value to all of our customers.

We invite you to sign up for updates and follow us on social media to stay connected and be the first to hear about seasonal availability, special events, and farm updates.

Will there be a restroom available for customers?

YES - a portable restroom will be available on-site for customer use.

Can I bring my dog?

NO – only service dogs are allowed beyond the entrance gate due to our proximity to the road and limited space. Emotional support animals are not allowed.

Do you have shopping carts or wagons?

YES – we have baskets, carts, and boxes for you to gather your garden favorites.

Legacy & Transition

Why did the Sea Girt retail store close?

After 42 wonderful years in Sea Girt, the Barlow family decided to focus fully on our farm operations and wholesale business, while evolving to a simpler seasonal retail model.

Operating directly from the farm allows us to concentrate on what we do best — growing strong, locally suited plants — while simplifying our business and creating a more sustainable path forward for the next generation.

We are deeply grateful for the decades we spent in Sea Girt and for the community that supported us there. We hope you’ll join us at the farm and continue growing with us in this next chapter.

Is Barlow's still family-owned?

YES — Barlow’s remains proudly family-owned and operated. Stephen Barlow III owns and leads the business, working alongside his brother, Thomas Barlow, who serves as the farm's head grower of plant production.

Stephen and Leslie Barlow, longtime owners of the Sea Girt location, are now enjoying retirement — though you’ll often find them strolling the farm, checking on crops, and generously sharing their decades of gardening wisdom.

Will you still have the same quality plants?

ABSOLUTELY. In fact, this is where many of your plants have been grown all along.

For more than a decade, we’ve been growing at this Hurley Pond location and transporting those plants to Sea Girt for retail. Now, for the first time, you’ll be shopping right where they’re grown.

We’re using the same trusted propagation methods, the same experienced growers, and the same local-climate expertise that have defined Barlow’s for decades — just with a shorter trip from greenhouse to garden.

What happened to the staff from Sea Girt?

As we transitioned to a new seasonal market model at the farm, our staffing needs changed. Some team members joined us in this next chapter, while others have moved on to new opportunities. We’re grateful for the many people who were part of our Sea Girt years and wish them continued success.

Wholesale & Fundraising

Do you still offer wholesale to landscapers and garden centers?

YES– wholesale is fully active from the farm. If you are a landscaper, town, or business that would like to learn more, please email our team at wholesale@barlowflowerfarm.com.

Do you still do fundraising programs?

YES – schools and community groups can contact wholesale@barlowflowerfarm.com for more information.

Do you provide any seasonal container designs?

YES – We continue to provide seasonal container plantings and holiday décor for a limited number of commercial and legacy wholesale clients. These services are reserved for existing and select corporate accounts and are not offered as a retail drop-off service at the farm.

For retail customers, we continue to offer our popular “drop-in” combination containers — expertly designed plantings of high-performance annuals for sun or shade that can be placed directly into your own containers. They offer the beauty of a professionally designed arrangement in a simple, cost-effective solution.

Please contact our wholesale team for more information regarding commercial services.

Do you offer special pricing for churches or schools?

YES - During key holidays, we offer special pricing through our wholesale division for churches and select schools that are decorating sanctuaries, common areas, or hosting events. If your organization is interested in seasonal plants or décor for these holidays, please contact our wholesale team for current programs, availability, and order timelines.
